V. Philips Long
V. Philips Long is Professor of Old Testament at Regent College in Vancouver, B.C., Canada. Phil joined Regents faculty in 2000, after having taught 15 years at Covenant Theological Seminary (St. Louis, Missouri) and 4 years at the Freie Theologische Akademie in Germany. In addition to earning a BA from Wheaton, an MDiv from Gordon-Conwell and a PhD from Cambridge, Phil has studied at the University of Heidelberg, Germany, and at the Hebrew University, Jerusalem. His book publications include The Reign and Rejection of King Saul: A Case for Literary and Theological Coherence, The Art of Biblical History, the edited volumes Israels Past in Present Research and Windows Into Old Testament History, and the co-authored work, A Biblical History of Israel. He has recently completed a background commentary on 12 Samuel, which is to appear in a 4-volume set covering the Old Testament. He has contributed commentary notes for the forthcoming ESV Study Bible (Joshua) and the Spirit of the Reformation Study Bible (12 Samuel) and has served on several translation projects. Phil is an ordained teaching elder in the PCA. He and his wife, Polly, have four children. An avid outdoorsman and angler, he also enjoys portrait and landscape painting
